The joys of a life well lived is the result of pulling together and drawing out  all of the good from our past experiences, whether  like myself, Jennifer-Rabe having been raised in Spain, or Gregore in Canada, and all of our  travels, interests and friendships. Whether we are designing engagement rings or other fine jewelry in Santa Barbara, we are inspired by our entire lives. The exotic theme of Zen must run deep. Only recently a veterinarian said our house was so Zen it would be a welcome home for any pet! I hadn't thought of that but maybe it is true.  Inspired by our travel's to Thailand, Buddha Eyes jewelry designs  emerged around 2004, and are being perfected still over time. Religion is an integral part of the Asian culture so the forms of Buddha are everywhere.

Choosing the path of the artist, or in other words, fascination with a subject creates its own fertile soil. As William James has said "where attention goes energy follows". So when Gregore got captivated by the Buddhas in Thailand he nurtured the ideas and allowed them to grow and change over time. He applied himself in thought and on paper refining this feeling that the jewelry inspired. He has made some pretty impressive large earrings too that I will share at a later date. See some drawings below.

The current pieces are the Buddha Eyes necklaces. I always like to share  early stages of creation. Here are how the cut waxes look.

The asset in cutting wax on CNC is  lowering the price of a product for the consumer.

The red wax has a lovely translucence and  also a very appealing color. I also never get enough of the pleasing visual effect of repetition. Maybe it was my early exposure to the art of the Moors who took over Southern Spain for hundreds of years. When we all lived there in the early 1960's the geometric art was everywhere in the house, lamps, tiles, iron work.  Repeated, interlocking forms, have a mesmerizing  and soothing effect.

This necklace comes both in Sterling Silver and in 18 karat yellow gold. Some like to wear the cool colors while others love the warm ones.

Without doubt Gregore will continue to develop the Buddha eyes theme so long as the subject continues to resonate with him.
